The Breath and the Voice came as one to create And God’s order from chaos emerged His first temple was built for all made to enjoy As God’s Word caused the realms to converge
The Word spoke again and pointed the way To a tree meant to mingle our lives But we hardened our hearts and grasped for the fruit That consigned us to fall for great lies
The Breath and the Word sent again and again Sought to lovingly woo us back home But barely an echo was heard in the lands Hearts in exile were thus set to roam
The Word came in flesh now it’s hard to ignore The cross-love Jesus bore is in view The Breath blew once more and it’s here to this day To fill hearts and to make all things new
There’s a life beyond life we’re designed to receive A void in our souls poised to hear The Good News that He whispers to those who will trust And think with Him as He draws us near
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Jesus the Christ
It is rather impossible to speak words without our breath being involved and escaping. Both in Hebrew (ruach) and Greek (pneuma) languages, breath and wind and spirit are all conveyed by the same word. Jesus and the Spirit visited humanity and this world through the First Coming in a way that changed everything on a fundamental level. The ramifications of it all are still working out … in every generation since. The Word of God animated by the Spirit of God has come to us and we are capable of such an impartation by God’s grace. We are real time players in the grand drama of His kingdom coming on earth as it is in heaven.
“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”
